Link light rail will operate only between Mt. Baker and Airport; plan ahead

Link light rail service will only operate between Mt. Baker Station and SeaTac/Airport Station on Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29, as contractors continue upgrading safety systems to prepare for the University Link light rail extension opening in early 2016.

Sound Transit and King County Metro will operate special free bus services between Mt. Baker Station and the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel. The special route 97 will serve Stadium Station and all stops in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel. Beacon Hill and SODO Station riders will be directed to existing bus routes.

Riders should plan ahead and expect longer travel times than during normal light rail operations.

The upgraded control systems will ensure continued system reliability and safety as the line extends 3.1 miles north to Capitol Hill and the University of Washington. This weekend work will focus on updates to the safety systems in the Beacon Hill Station and tunnels.

Due to the extent of the upgrades, Sound Transit cannot install and test the system during the four-hour overnight window that the system is normally closed to passenger service.
