Sound Transit to provide Sounder commuter rail service to Puyallup Fair

September 5, 2001

Sound Transit's popular Sounder commuter train will provide roundtrip service to the Puyallup Fair on September 8, 15 and 22. In addition to a stress-free trip, riders who use the Puyallup Fair Saturday Service will receive 50 percent off fair gate admission when they present their same-day Sounder ticket to the fair ticket sales booth.

The train south to the Puyallup Fair will leave Seattle King Street Station at 9:55 a.m., then stop at Tukwila at 10:12 a.m., Kent at 10:19 a.m., Auburn at 10:26 a.m., Sumner at 10:35 a.m. and arrive at 10:40 a.m. at the Puyallup Station, a 10-minute walk from the Puyallup Fairgrounds. In the evening, the train north will leave Puyallup at 6:50 p.m. (boarding begins at 6:30 p.m.). Sounder will reach Sumner at 6:55 p.m., Auburn at 7:04 p.m., Kent at 7:11 p.m., Tukwila at 7:18 p.m. and Seattle at 7:40 p.m.

Tickets for the Puyallup Fair Sounder are only available for purchase on the day of service and can be purchased with cash from a station agent or from a ticket vending machine on the Sounder station platform (ticket vending machines accept cash, debit cards, Visa or Mastercard).

A roundtrip ticket for adults from Seattle is $8, $6 if you board in Tukwila, Kent or Auburn, and $4 from Sumner. For youths 5-18 years, roundtrip from Seattle is $6, $4.50 if you board in Tukwila, Kent or Auburn, and $3 from Sumner (children under five ride free with a fare-paying passenger). Seniors 65 years or older and disabled passengers' roundtrip ticket from Seattle is $4, $3 from Tukwila, Kent or Auburn, and $2 from Sumner.

Both the PugetPass and FlexPass are honored for face value on the special service, but if the face value of the pass is less than the fare it must be upgraded at a ticket vending machine. There will be no ticket sales on the train and no refunds or replacements will be issued.

Sounder offers regular weekday commuter service to the seven Sounder stations between Tacoma and Seattle. Sounder service is planned to eventually extend north to Everett, Edmonds and Mukilteo and south of Tacoma to Lakewood.
