Statement by Sound Transit Board Chair Dow Constantine

Sound Transit Board Chair and King County Executive Dow Constantine today issued the following statement on momentum in the Washington State Senate toward a statewide transportation plan that includes authority for local voters to consider regional transit expansions:

"The Sound Transit Board is encouraged that Senate leaders have proposed bipartisan solutions toward addressing congestion in the Central Puget Sound region."

"Our members will continue working with the Legislature for authority to allow people to vote on the full $15 billion that is required to create a truly regional mass transit network. Ours is one of the fastest growing regions in the nation. Expanding light rail and other regional transit services will help preserve the road capacity and freight mobility we need to fuel the state's trade-dependent economy."

"We are confident that by continuing the progress and collaboration now underway we will get there."
