Single-lane and double-lane closures March 21-25

Southbound lanes on Interstate 5 between the Mounts Road exit and the rail bridge at Joint Base Lewis McCord will temporarily close for construction Monday, March 21, to Friday, March 25.

Single-lane closures will occur 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Double-lane closures will occur 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. The work will sequence east to west, with two left lanes closed Monday and Tuesday, followed by two right lane closures Wednesday and Thursday. The southbound I-5 Mounts Road on-ramp will also be closed Wednesday and Thursday night.

During the closures, southbound vehicles will take exit 116 to exit 119 and merge onto Barksdale Drive to return to southbound I-5.

The rail bridge is being rehabilitated as part of the Washington State Department of Transportation Point Defiance Bypass project. The project will reroute Amtrak Cascades passenger trains to an inland rail line through DuPont, Lakewood, and Tacoma. Sound Transit owns the rail line and is managing construction of the project.
