Thursday, May 14, 10:30 a.m.Mountlake Terrace Transit Center6001 236th Street SW, Mountlake Terrace, WAJoin us as we break ground on an exciting new project that will bring regional, express bus service to Mountlake Terrace for the first time. With help from $4.6 million in federal stimulus grant money for shovel-ready projects, construction of the freeway station will create new jobs in Snohomish County. Please RSVP to events@soundtransit.org About the projectThe project consists of new bus ramps and a freeway station in the median of Interstate 5 and will connect to the existing transit center via a pedestrian bridge. By providing a safe, sheltered crossing over the interstate for bus riders, the freeway station will be a key connection for those traveling between Snohomish and King counties. It will also speed the journey for thousands of commuters passing through on their way to destinations north and south. Buses will start using the freeway station in summer 2011. The Mountlake Terrace Freeway Station not only provides faster connections in the short term, it also lays the groundwork for Link light rail service. When Link opens in Snohomish County in 2023, Mountlake Terrace Freeway station will help connect Link to Sound Transit, King County Metro and Community Transit bus routes.
Public ArtMuse Atelier, with artists Nancy Chew and Jacqueline Metz, will create the public art for this freeway station. The piece, a log-shaped bench, will be functional as well as beautiful. Learn more about the
