Projects and Plans

Building more transit
Sound Transit projects include light rail extensions, transit centers, park-and-ride facilities, freeway stations and HOV (transit/carpool lane) improvements.
Spotlight: East Link
East Link will connect the Eastside's biggest population and employment centers with stations in Seattle, Mercer Island, Bellevue, and Overlake.
• The 14.5 mile route includes a tunnel through downtown Bellevue.
• Construction is expected to start in 2015 or 2016 and launch passenger service in 2022 or 2023.
• By 2030, East Link trains are expected to move up to 50,000 riders every weekday.

System planning
Sound Transit has been building a regional mass transit system approved by voters in 1996. In 2008, voters approved a new expansion plan that adds ST Express bus and Sounder service and will build 36 new miles of Link light rail to form a 55-mile regional system.
Service Planning
Each year, our planners propose a new plan to guide the delivery of ST Express bus, Sounder commuter rail and Link light rail services. This Service Implementation Plan (SIP) describes service and revisions proposed for the upcoming budget year, together with preliminary proposals and financial estimates for the subsequent five-year period.
