Public art is integrated into each discrete feature of the SeaTac/Airport Link light rail station, enhancing visitor's experience from one end of the station to other.
Flying Sails - Werner Klotz
Two illuminated “Flying Sails” are suspended from the mezzanine to the platform level of the light rail station. Each sail is made of highly polished stainless steel rotating plates of varying sizes. Plates on one sail incorporate the names of local native tribes and plates on the other sail include the names of cities sharing the same latitude as SeaTac. The sails catch the wind of passing trains, causing the sculptures to change shape as the plates flutter in reaction.
Pendulum - Christian Moeller
A series of pendulums suspended from the ceiling are activated by sensors that react to movement as people enter the pedestrian bridge connecting the International Boulevard plaza with the station. The pendulums swing at varying speeds, mimicking the rhythms of passerbys as they walk along the bridge.
Celestial Navigations - Fernanda D'Agostino
“Celestial Navigations” features a series of terrazzo and bronze paving inlays in the International Boulevard plaza of the station. A 19’-tall glass and metal sculpture in the shape of a quadrant is the focal point of the space, and incorporates video footage of aerial imagery and flight studies of birds.
