Standing Wave - Gerard Tsutakawa (2004)
Standing Wave is a fifteen-foot tall, totem-like bronze sculpture by renowned local artist Gerard Tsutakawa. The sculpture's form is an allegory to the movement of water on Puget Sound. It can be conceived as a series of waves in a vertical plane, or as a giant wave about to break.
The scale of this project is attributed to a unique public/private partnership among Sound Transit, the City of Edmonds Arts Commission and private donors who were able to combine resources to allow the sculpture to grow from its original 8-foot height to 12-feet.
Standing Wave is currently located at the SR 104 Mini Park in Edmonds, adjacent to the Washington State Ferry loading lanes. This landmark sculpture will be relocated to the new Edmonds Sounder Station, which begins construction in 2007.
