Cornucopia – Lydia Aldredge (2002)
The Kent Station is located just north of downtown Kent between First and Railroad avenues, and Smith and James streets.
The public art incorporated into the Kent Station reflects the rich agricultural history of the Kent valley. Components include a watercourse with decorative concrete paving, storm drain covers, mosaics and ponds with pumps. In addition, there are eight trellis light fixtures and a Garden of Measurement made up of a clock, helix barometer, rainbow thermometer, rain gauge and weathervane.
Kent Station artist Lydia Aldredge succeeded in designing an environmental artwork and a locational device at the Kent Station. In particular, she says of the Garden of Measurement: “These devices are interactive, changeable, and provide relevant information in a visually appealing and exciting way. These changing features unify the farmer of the valley’s past with the commuter of the present. This collection of measuring works is also meant to recall the grain elevator which was a landmark feature of the station site.”
