SODO Station - Public Art

Made in USA - Michael Davis

Made in USA honors the SODO district's industrial past by utilizing "tools of the trade" to create a sculpture and seating benches.

A free-standing sculpture acts as an entrance portal and gateway to the station and public plaza. The steel I-beam construction archway with enlarged level, carpenter's pencil and square celebrate the craft and action of labor.

The benches are created from steel beams, metal plates stone and granite function as seating. Some of the benches have cast bronze tools, left as if on break, awaiting reanimation. The benches humanize the industrial environment, illustrating that all that is built starts with an idea and the will to transform raw material into form.
