“Circulations”

Artist Christine Bourdette worked closely with project designers to integrate art and artist ideas into the pedestrian walkway connecting the Kingsgate Park-and_Ride with the new freeway transit station located on the direct access ramps. For the artist, transportation relates to time, daily cycles and the arrivals and departures that connect us to the rest of the world. A series of 8 sculptures consisting of steel arches and elegant granite circles will be integrated with landscaping along the walkway, adding a sense of movement and lightness to the pedestrian experience.

The walls of the Totem Lake/128th St HOV ramp provide a 33,000 square-foot canvas for artist expression. Taking the theme of circulation, mobility and change from Christine Bourdette’s artwork, artist Vicki Scuri has created a patterned abstraction of leaf and seed forms that relates to the motion of travel, the motion of water, and the currents of air. This project creates a unique symbol and expression for the City of Kirkland, capturing the essence of the city’s natural resources.
