Sounder Station Access Study
In 2012 Sound Transit completed the Sounder Station Access Study, examining access to and from eight Sounder commuter rail stations. The information will be used to help plan future Sounder station improvements at Mukilteo Station, Kent Station, Auburn Station, Puyallup Station, Sumner Station, Tacoma Dome Station, South Tacoma Station and Lakewood Station.
The capital improvements could include:
- Expanded parking
- Improvements to bike facilities within 1/2 mile of stations
- Enhancements to pedestrian access within 1/4 mile of stations
- Better transit connections at the station
Sound Transit is implementing a significant package of regional transit projects and services as part of Sound Transit 2, approved by the voters in 2008. One element of the plan is to improve access to Sounder commuter rail stations. The Sounder Station Access Study will help direct these improvements. Moving forward, Sound Transit will work with local governments, stakeholders and the community to determine the best set of investments to improve access to specific Sounder commuter rail stations.
