Body

Sound Transit has issued Notice to Proceed to the Design-Build contractor that will complete design and construct the two East Link Extension light rail stations and associated track and infrastructure in the Overlake area in Redmond. A portion of the project starts in Bellevue and runs along SR 520 to NE 40th Street in Redmond. With this Notice to Proceed, the Joint Venture Kiewit-Hoffman has Sound Transit’s authorization to begin the final design and construction on this portion of the East Link project.

Updates about how you can stay engaged and future opportunities to meet the project team and learn more about what’s being built in Redmond will be shared through project updates like this one.

Contractor's First To-Do's

Beginning work in the Overlake area in Redmond means developing a schedule of work. Over the course of the next several months, Sound Transit will be working closely with the contractor to develop and finalize the schedule. Sound Transit will host an opportunity to learn more about sequence and phasing of design and construction activities, likely in fall 2016.

Major construction work activities will include:

  • Site preparation: demolition, clearing and grading within the work zone in preparation for construction
  • Maintenance of traffic: detour routes, signage, temporary road closures, and as early as spring 2017 closure of the Overlake Transit Center Park-and-Ride with advanced notice
  • Utility work
  • Build trackway, elevated guideway, stations, pedestrian bridges and park-and-ride facility
  • Testing and pre-operations, including system testing and safety certification.

Typical construction work hours

In the City of Redmond, construction is allowed between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. seven days per week, as long as the construction noise does not impact residential zones.

Construction noise that impacts residential zones has the following restricted hours: Monday through Friday 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Construction noise that impacts residential zones is prohibited on Sunday or Legal holidays.

Night work will be required at times as part of this project with approval from City of Redmond and City of Bellevue staff where applicable. Advanced notification will be provided for Sound Transit work conducted outside of typical work hours.
