Project Update: Northgate Link Extension February 2016
Construction crews working to stabilize soil in four areas between the U District and Roosevelt station sites are building noise reducing boxes around equipment that will be running 24-hours-day for six to eight months. The soil stabilization work is needed to excavate cross-passages, or emergency exits, from one tunnel to the other. Crews are using a method called ground freezing.
Tunnel boring machine #1 approaching University of Washington campus
This month, tunneling crews expect to push TBM #1 beneath the University of Washington campus. The machine will complete its half of the tunneling when it arrives at the University of Washington Station this spring. TBM #2 is still on its way to U District Station where it’ll undergo refurbishment.
