Dear Neighbor,

We are thrilled to announce that the City of Tacoma has received $15 million in Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) funding for the Tacoma Link Expansion project. This funding brings us one step closer toward construction.

Sound Transit Board meeting: /About-Sound-Transit/Board-of-Directors

The Sound Transit Board is scheduled to receive a briefing on the preliminary project cost estimate and select the final alignment and station locations for the project to be built, which allows the project to move into final design and construction.

Public comment: The public is encouraged to make comments at the Sound Transit Board meeting on November 19, 1:30-4 p.m. at Union Station, 401 S. Jackson St, Seattle. Public comments are taken at the beginning of the meeting.

Fall open house: You are also invited to attend our fall open house where you can learn more about the Sound Transit Board’s decision regarding the project, project funding, 30 percent project design, public art process and next steps.

Sound Transit is contributing $50 million in ST2 tax revenues, and $74.99 million in Federal Transit Administration Small Starts funding has been included in President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2016 budget proposal to Congress. The $15 million in TIGER funding is a part of the City of Tacoma’s $40 million contribution to the project. Including the TIGER funding, the City (with Sound Transit’s help) has now secured $33 million in grant funding towards its contribution.

The project was approved by voters in the 2008 Sound Transit 2 (ST2) ballot measure as a funding partnership. Last year, the Sound Transit Board of Directors, in cooperation with the City of Tacoma, Pierce Transit and community members, identified a preferred alignment for expansion. The alignment would expand the system 2.4 miles from the Theater District to the Stadium and Hilltop districts and includes one relocated station and six new proposed stations.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Allison Gregg
