Stations in South Tacoma and Lakewood open for Sounder service this October
Starting Oct. 8, Sounder will offer first-class, reliable service between Lakewood and Seattle. New stops are Lakewood and South Tacoma and it continues to downtown Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Kent, Tukwila and Seattle. Trains have plush seating, outlets for computers, bicycle storage, restrooms and fantastic views.
Train frequency
Sounder trains run Monday through Friday in the morning and afternoons. There will be five round trips between Lakewood, South Tacoma, and Seattle.

We suggest that for October, monthly PugetPass users who will be starting or ending their commute at South Tacoma or Lakewood continue to purchase their regular pass and add E-purse value to cover any additional fare once service starts.
From South Tacoma Station – add $10.00 E-purse

Employer-provided ORCA cards
If your business provides a comprehensive ORCA card that covers Sounder Train trips currently, you should be able to board at Lakewood when service begins and your fare will be covered. Check with your employer if you have questions.

Getting your tickets or passes
You will be able to buy train tickets at ticket vending machines located at any Sounder station, or use your ORCA card to pay for your trip. If you don't already have an ORCA card, now is a great time to get one.
Need more flexibility?
Lakewood Station also has bus service to connect you to downtown Tacoma and downtown Seattle with Sound Transit routes 592 and 594.
Be smart. Be safe.
Train testing is now in progress. Sounder trains will run on the tracks between downtown Tacoma and Lakewood. Sounder trains are fast and quiet.
- Take extra caution to obey all warning signs
- Look both ways and pay special attention when crossing the tracks
- Respect the trains right-of-way - don't walk or bike along the tracks
- Always respect all traffic and crossing signals.
