More choices for travel between Everett, Edmonds and Seattle

Through the Rail Plus partnership, Sound Transit and Amtrak Cascades are expanding commuter rail service in north Puget Sound by offering more options for your weekday peak trips between Everett and Seattle. With this partnership, Amtrak Cascades will now serve Sounder stations at King Street, Edmonds and Everett.

Paying your fare: Monthly PugetPass, ORCA Card*, GoPass, GoBCC, UPass, FlexPass cards with a valid fare value are accepted onboard the Amtrak Rail Plus trains, and any valid Amtrak ticket may be used on Sounder to travel between Everett and Seattle.

How to ride Amtrak Rail Plus with an ORCA Passport Card or ORCA Pass:

  • Confirm your pass is equal to one-way fare
  • Go to a TVM on a Sounder Platform
  • Select Destination (two times, one general, then one specific)
  • Select Amtrak RailPlus which appears in the bottom button line-up in the right hand corner
  • Screen says, "Amtrak RailPlus requires a monthly regional pass"
  • Place your ORCA Pass or Passport card into the Card Reader
  • Retrieve your TVM generated Amtrak RailPlus "validation" ticket

You will receive credit for the value of your ORCA Pass or Passport. (Passport Cards have a "face" value of $4.75.)

To travel as listed below, your Orca Pass value must match the corresponding fare:

One-Way Fare: King Street Station to Edmonds ($3.50), Mukilteo (No Amtrak Service), or Everett ($4.50)

The TVM reads your ORCA Passport card, and issues an Amtrak RailPlus ticket with a date, destination and ORCA card number.

When Amtrak RailPlus conductors inspect, they will want to see both your ORCA Pass or Passport card and the validation ticket.

You cannot "upgrade" a pass for RailPlus. RailPlus is intended for regular commuters, not casual riders who would otherwise buy a regular Amtrak ticket.

PugetPass holders wishing to ride Sound Transit rail services need to purchase a Puget Pass of sufficient value to cover the trip, or purchase a separate ticket for the full amount.

Note: All other fare media that can currently be "upgraded" at a TVM are being phased out Jan 1, 2010.
