PUBLIC INVITED TO INFORMATIONAL OPEN HOUSES ON SOUNDER COMMUTER RAIL ON JAN. 13 AND 15, 1998
South King County, Pierce Country and Seattle citizens will have another opportunity to chat one-on-one with experts from Sound Transit ( the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority ( about Sounder Commuter Rail, the proposed 40 mile Tacoma-to-Seattle transit system using existing railroad mainlines, at three informational public open houses to be held the third week of January. The informal meetings will run from 4:30 to 7 p.m., and they will be held at the following locations:

Information on the new commuter rail system that will serve stations in Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Kent, Renton, Kent and Tukwila will be available, as well as the draft environmental assessment (EA) document as required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA). Sound Transit is the lead agency to ensure compliance with the SEPA, and while no official public comment period is required, Sound Transit welcomes public review and comment at these meetings. Comments will be accepted until January 30, 1998 and may be given at these open houses or in writing via mail, fax or e-mail.
