2009: Sound Transit 2 Implementation
With the approval of the Sound Transit 2 program in late 2008, Sound Transit began integrating that new program of investments with the implementation of remaining Sound Move investments and on-going light rail, commuter rail and regional express bus service operations. Early in 2009, Sound Transit comprehensively reviewed its entire capital program to determine the best way to begin implementation of the ST2 program in light of diminishing revenues as the current economic recession deepened. The result was a discussion paper to advise the Board of Directors about how to best begin implementation of the ST2 program and to identify potential opportunities and risks.

2009 Project Start-Ups
Sound Transit began project start-up activities for extending light rail from Northgate to Lynnwood, expanding bus maintenance capacity, improving access to Sounder stations and extending Tacoma Link light rail.
Also in 2009, the Sound Transit began bus fleet expansion; receiving three coaches to be used on ST Express routes operated by Pierce Transit, and placing orders for 13 coaches to be delivered in Spring 2010, for King County Metro operated routes.
