reel icon 🚉🎨 New public art has arrived at Kent Des Moines Station! 👀   “INTERTIDE WALK” by Tori Shao ( @torikinn ) transforms a seating wall at the north end of the station into a celebration of the Puget Sound and the diverse organisms that call its shoreline home.   Artist Tori Shao is a Seattle muralist, ceramicist, and landscape architect. She was selected from regional public art rosters to develop and paint a mural for a low wall that also serves as a seating bench at the station.   To develop her design, Tori met with artists Charan Sachar and Sarah Kavage to better understand the engagement work they had done with the Highline College accessibility group for a tactile mosaic being developed across the plaza. She also got to know the adjacent community and other artworks at the station. Tori designed the mural to connect with the future mosaic, which will feature a beach scene with textures that blind and low-vision passengers will be able to read with their hands. More details on that project in the future!  🐚   Tori’s design highlights and celebrates the Puget Sound, one of the most defining features of our region. The mural features organisms that residents and visitors might find on an intertidal walk during low tide, including moon snails, sea stars, chitons, scallops, mudflat snails, mussels, and tube snails. 🌊🪸   “The Sound Transit Art (STart) program is excited for passengers, visitors, and residents to experience Tori’s beautiful mural.
