Sound Transit announces special schedules for New Year’s holidayDecember 29, 2008Sound Transit will have special holiday hours for buses and trains for the New Year’s holiday. Sound Transit’s business offices will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, and reopen for normal business hours on Friday, Jan. 2. On Wednesday, Dec. 31, and Friday, Jan. 2, Sound Transit buses and Tacoma Link light rail will operate a regular weekday schedule, and Sounder commuter trains will run on holiday schedule. On New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, Sound Transit buses and Tacoma Link will operate a Sunday schedule, and Sounder commuter rail will not run. Sounder commuter rail’s holiday schedule runs fewer trains and includes mid-morning and mid-afternoon departures, giving Sounder travelers more flexibility. Sounder Connector Route 599 from Lakewood Station also will run on a modified schedule, and will not serve the 9:30 a.m. Sounder departure or the 3:29 p.m. Sounder arrival at Tacoma Dome Station. Tacoma Link will run special train service for the city’s annual First Night celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 31.Normal weekday service will run between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and special two-train service will run from 8:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. Jan. 1. First Night is a family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration sponsored in part by the City of Tacoma and Pierce County. A parade, street performances, special theater performances, and free admission to several museums are included in the program of events happening in the neighborhoods all along the Tacoma Link rail line. Riders can sign up to receive automatic e-mail service alerts for Sounder Seattle-Everett, Sounder Seattle-Tacoma, Tacoma Link or ST Express.
