Link light rail and bus service disruptions in SODO this coming weekend

Trains will turn back at SODO station, bus transfer service provided for final downtown leg

Link light rail service will not run through the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel (DSTT) and parts of the SODO area this weekend as Washington State Department of Transportation contractors remove scaffolding supporting a new off-ramp over the tracks and station just south of downtown.

Free bus shuttles will carry Link passengers from the SODO light rail station at South Lander Street via Sixth Avenue South to the DSTT stations. King County Metro and Sound Transit bus routes that normally use the SODO busway will also be detoured during the work.

Removing the timber and steel scaffolding is a critical step toward completing the off-ramp, which will connect I-5 and I-90 to the S. Atlantic Street overpass once it opens this spring. Completing the work in one weekend avoids up to 30 nights of service disruption. The ramp and the new South Royal Brougham Bridge over the railroad tracks are the main components of WSDOT's State Route 519 Intermodal Access project.

The light rail power lines must be turned off to ensure contractor safety during this work. Link riders can catch free shuttle buses from SODO Station to and from the DSTT approximately every 15minutes during the normal Link weekend operating hours.

The work begins at 10 p.m. Friday, March 5 and is scheduled to be complete by 4 a.m. Monday, March 8.
