South Tacoma StationDescription
Sound Transit is expanding its Sounder commuter rail service to South Tacoma and Lakewood. A new commuter rail station in South Tacoma will be built to serve Pierce County commuters. When Sounder service is fully operational to South Tacoma Station, 18 trains will arrive and depart from the station each day. During peak commuting times, trains will depart every 30 minutes on the way to Seattle.
The station will consist of a long platform alongside the tracks, with five shelters to provide cover for commuters as well as kiosks to purchase tickets. A parking lot across the tracks will hold approximately 220 vehicles.
In 2009, South Tacoma Station opened for commuter parking, and ST Express bus route 593 began service to Tacoma Dome Station and downtown Seattle.
