Cairns - Ingrid Lahti (2003)

Zen-like balancing rocks pay homage to the former site of a Buddhist temple in this series of stone and steel cairns by artist Ingrid Lahti. The sculpture cairns are a reminder of how the lessons of the past continue to mark the way to the future. Ancient stones enclosed in contemporary stainless steel embody the balance and the tension between tradition and innovation seen everywhere in the evolving Tacoma cityscape.
As an additional element to celebrate Tacoma's leadership in the world of international art glass, Tacoma Link lead artist Fernanda D'Agostino designed colored glass in geometric patterns to form the roof of the station canopies.
