Bruce West (2002)
The public art created by Bruce West at the Auburn Station reflects the rich agricultural history of the area. Two stainless steel sculptures, one of three pear halves, titled "Standing Pear and Friends," and the other of two strawberry halves, "Strawberry Duo," sit among the orchard-like landscaping of the train station and bus plaza. The "friends" refer to the visitors of the station, who are invited, even encouraged, to sit on the artwork.
The artist specifically intended to reflect the former rural and agricultural nature of the surrounding area, to use shapes and forms of historical significance to Auburn – the strawberry and the pear.
Jean Whitesavage and Nick Lyle (2002)
Seattle artists Jean Whitesavage and Nick Lyle constructed hand-forged and fabricated vines that crawl up the façade of the parking garage at the Auburn Station. The curling, organic nature of the forged vines are a counterpoint to the blank surface of the garage. They personify luxuriant growth and their forms are a response to the architectural surroundings.
