Tukwila Station – Public Art

Connections - Catherine Gill and Barbara Pitts (2001)

Tukwila describes itself as a “community at the crossroads”, and this identity inspired Seattle artists Catherine Gill and Barbara Pitts to incorporate the theme of connections into the temporary artwork they designed for the temporary Tukwila Sounder station. They used artist’s prints on fiberglass-reinforced polyester to make a strong visual statement. Essentially handmade prints with layers of images, the art offers interest when viewed up close as commuters make their way to the track area.

“As public artists who are also printmakers, we used recycled materials and adapted studio techniques for this installation. Discovering these connections both delighted and enriched us.”
