Board and Committee Public Comment

Public Comment

Citizen comments are an important part of the Sound Transit public process. The Board of Directors takes comments seriously and they are factored into its decisions. All Sound Transit Board and Committee meetings and public hearings are open to the public.

When and how do I provide my comments at a Sound Transit Board of Directors meeting?

Anyone wishing to comment on action items listed on the agenda can do so during the public comment section at a Board meeting or on a particular agenda item that is up for final action. Copies of the agenda are available on the Sound Transit Web site or outside the Ruth Fisher Boardroom the day of the meeting.

Public comment sheets are available outside the Ruth Fisher Boardroom at Union Station in Seattle (401 S. Jackson St.) the day of the meeting. Complete and return the public comment sheet to the tray provided outside the boardroom or to any Board Administration staff member before the meeting begins.

You can also download a copy of the form by clicking here (PDF 33kb).

Once the meeting has been called to order, the public comment forms are removed. At the discretion of the Chair, however, he/she may ask if anyone who did not sign up would like to comment.

When and how do I provide my comments at a Sound Transit Committee meeting?

Sign up sheets are not needed - simply raise your hand when the Chair asks for public comment when the discussion between Board members on the agenda item has been completed and come forward.

For all meetings

When your name is called, come forward, state your name for the record, and you will have three minutes to present your comments.

If a large group is commenting on an action item, please designate one person as representative for the whole group. You cannot give your minutes to another speaker.

Please keep in mind that comments are addressed to the Board as a whole, and not to individual Board members.  Please refrain from personal attacks.

Sign up sheets and all public comments (written, electronic, or oral) are considered a public record and may be required to be disclosed upon request.

Write a letter or email the Board

You may submit your questions/comments on items not on the Board/Committee agenda in writing; copies will be forwarded to the full Board and appropriate staff person(s) for follow up, if needed:
