Senior Structural Engineer

Link Light Rail - Close Date: Open Until Filled


Scope of Position

  • Provides support to Sound Transit relating to technical and engineering services including inspections, shop drawing reviews, acceptance testing review and problem resolution during construction.
  • Serves as senior manager of Design Services during Construction for Bridge and Tunnel technical assistance.
  • Oversee preparation of cost estimates and scopes of work for consultant staff.
  • Serves as first point of contact on the emergency call out list to provide emergency response services to Sound Transit link Light Rail when structures are damaged by fire, vessel collision, vehicle collision or natural disasters such as earthquakes.
  • Responsible for managing the consultants detailed structural design and preparation of plans for Link Light Rail structures which includes curved steel plate and box girders, installation of light rail on floating bridges and retaining walls.
  • Coordinates and monitors the review and approval process for construction questions and shop plans for Link Light rail bridge and tunnel structures with consultant, WSDOT City of Seattle and other jurisdictions.
  • Supervises the update and filing of as-built design plans for Link Light Rail structures
  • Negotiates and manages contracts, including payment and performance evaluation, with outside engineering consultant firms for performing structural design and bridge inspection services.
  • Checks designs of reinforced concrete and steel bridges, tunnels, and other miscellaneous structures.
  • Performs other work as required.


Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of:  All types of complex and monumental bridge designs using national bridge engineering codes, such as AASHTO and AISC; state of the art engineering principles in the discipline of civil and structural design concepts.

Ability to: Be an effective project manager; train junior engineers, supervise engineering staff in civil and structural engineering disciplines.


Desirable Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science degree involving major study in civil/structural engineering.
AND
Registration as a professional engineer in the branch of structural engineering in the state of Washington or another state, based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license may be required.
