Scope of Position
The following reflects a representation of this position’s essential functions. It does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned as needed.

This position provides lead oversight for assigned mechanical engineering elements including civil/systems integration, signals, communications, HVAC systems, fire life safety and emergency ventilation systems and electrical systems;

Oversees the integration of assigned projects;

Manages the communication and coordination of work activities among Sound Transit staff/consultants, local jurisdictions and affected community and business groups;

Ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and
-
Performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to an assigned area of responsibility including design review, design support during construction, and clarifications of technical requirements.
A Senior Mechanical Engineer is considered a senior level managerial professional and is expected to be experienced in all phases of design management and project development. Positions, at this level, have responsibility for managing the technical requirements, equality, scope, schedule and budget related to assigned projects or project elements.
Qualifications
The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. In addition to the above, the Senior Mechanical Engineer:

must have a good understanding of the team approach,
-
a good working knowledge of CAD
-
be able to read engineering drawings; mechanical, electrical, civil and structural
-
have experience interacting with public agencies, emergency responders and utility responders,
-
have excellent communication skills, and
-
be self-motivated and committed to the success of Sound Transit.
Education and Experience
Related experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in mechanical engineering or related discipline
-
Seven (7) years of increasingly responsible engineering experience related to the area of assignment and significance project management experience.
