Server EngineerFinance & Information Technology - Close Date: Open Until Filled
Scope of Position
Plan, develop and implement the Agency's local and wide server networks; to install, configure, maintain, and administer Agency servers to ensure the availability of network services; to coordinate assigned activities with other divisions; and to perform a variety of highly complex technical duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The Server Engineer classification is considered professional level positions with working knowledge of data center management principles and practices. Positions within this level serve as a technical resource on network and server systems and works on problems or projects of diverse scope and moderate complexity where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of various factors.

Plan, develop and implement Agency's wide and local server networks and infrastructure; ensure the availability of network and core services; monitor and maintain servers, resolve technical problems, and ensure network systems are operating efficiently.

Monitor server operations to identify performance and capacity issues; measure volume and performance of network traffic; identify utilization and performance issues; develop plans and implement new technologies and services to satisfy capacity and performance requirements; establish and maintain technology and operation standards.

Participate in evaluation of network protocols, hardware and software to determine their applicability to Agency network needs; coordinate the instal¬lation and maintenance of computers, servers, Storage Area Networks (SANs), back-up devices, Network Attached Storage (NAS), clustered systems and other server related equipment.

Coordinate, administer, and maintain responsibility for serving systems including network security, e-mail, FTP and web servers, and administrative/monitoring tools.

Perform server system administration and performance functions; monitor account security; add applications, users and devices; change user security and permission settings; identify unauthorized access and potential security risks; participate in projects to enhance enterprise security operations.

As assigned, serve as project manager in the evaluation, selection, installation and integration of networked technol¬ogies; develop proposals using cost/benefit analyses; design project and resource plans and schedules; provide written reports and presentations on project status; ensure project complies with Agency standards.

Implement & administer back-up systems including software, devices, and procedures.

Assist senior help desk staff in resolving the more complex technology system problems;

Perform technical writing duties in the development and produc¬tion of system documentation, instructional and procedur¬al manuals.

Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of information technology and network administration.
