Analysis of options for Tacoma Link light rail about to go public

On Friday, October 16, a major step will be taken toward the development of Tacoma's 1.6-mile Link light rail line with the public issuance of the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) on the project. The draft EIS will report on the analysis by Sound Transit - the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority - of the potential benefits and impacts of a number of route, station and maintenance facility alternatives for connecting Pierce Transit's Tacoma Dome Station, the University of Washington campus and theater district/north downtown area.  

Public comment on the draft EIS will be accepted through November 16. A public hearing on the document will be held in Tacoma on November 5, and it will be discussed at an October 21 workshop being held as part of a broader Sound Transit public open house:

In addition to Tacoma Link light rail, Sound Transit is implementing Sounder commuter rail service on existing tracks between Lakewood and Everett, a central Link light rail line between SeaTac and Northgate, up to 20 new Regional Express limited-stop bus routes and improved transit connections including transit centers and park-and-ride facilities.
