Community forums scheduled to help people get involved in developing the Central Link light rail system

When the draft environmental impact statement for the Central Link light rail system is released in early December, it will trigger a public decision-making process that will lead to identifying the preferred route and station locations for the new 24-mile rail line that will connect SeaTac, Tukwila and Seattle. Sound Transit - the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority - has scheduled a series of community forums to share the latest information on projected ridership, costs and environmental impacts, and to discuss how people can participate in helping make decisions on routes, stations and other key issues.

Publication of the draft EIS in early December will be a major milestone in developing the light rail system, providing an important tool which details the benefits, costs and impacts of the numerous route and station options being analyzed. The draft EIS will be accompanied by a preliminary staff recommendation based on the analysis. Release of the document starts a public comment period, leading to the Sound Transit Board identifying the preferred route and station locations, scheduled for February 25, 1999.  

In addition to the Central Link light rail line, Sound Transit is developing the 1.6-mile Tacoma Link light rail line, 82 miles of Sounder commuter rail service between Everett and Lakewood and up to 20 new limited-stop Regional Express bus routes to serve the King, Pierce and Snohomish county region.
