Latest designs for Puyallup commuter rail station to be unveiled at Sound Transit open house

On the heels of several successful station design workshops, Sound Transit - the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority - along with the City of Puyallup and Pierce Transit are inviting the public to an open house unveiling the latest conceptual designs for the Sounder commuter rail station in Puyallup. People will be able to see the latest design concepts for Puyallup's commuter rail station and talk with key designers and Sound Transit staff to help ensure that the station meets their needs and reflects their community's character. Many new ideas have emerged to enhance the station and downtown, including such concepts as a possible gateway on Meridian Street. Sounder commuter rail will begin two-way rush hour service between Tacoma and Seattle in late 1999, and extend service north to Everett and south to Lakewood by early 2001. It is part of Sound Move, the regional transit plan approved by voters in 1996 which also includes construction of Link light rail between SeaTac and Northgate and a 1.6 mile downtown Tacoma Link line, and Regional Express service that includes 20 new limited-stop regional bus routes and numerous improvements to transit centers, park-and-ride lots and high-occupancy vehicle lanes throughout the region.
