More opportunities to help Sound Transit design Sounder commuter rail stations in Puyallup and Sumner

Following this week's successful public open houses and station design workshops in Sumner and Puyallup, throughout September Sound Transit - the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority - will host three more opportunities for the public to help design their community's Sounder commuter rail station.

Each of these opportunities for people to become personally involved in their community's future will begin with a workshop for local businesses from 1 - 3 p.m., followed by an informal public open house from 4 - 7 p.m. and wrapping up with a hands-on public design workshop from 7 - 9 p.m.

Puyallup station:

Sound Transit is hosting these public open houses and workshops to hear everyone's ideas, concerns and visions to help ensure that the Sounder commuter rail stations will meet the needs and reflect the character of the communities they serve. The cities of Puyallup and Sumner join Sound Transit in sponsoring these public open houses and workshops. Similar events are currently being planned for four other communities that will be served by Sounder: Tacoma, Auburn, Kent and Tukwila.

Sounder commuter rail will begin two-way rush hour service between Tacoma and Seattle in late 1999, and extend service north to Everett and south to Lakewood by early 2001. It is part of Sound Move, the regional transit plan approved by voters in 1996 which also includes construction of Link light rail between SeaTac and Northgate and a 1.6 mile downtown Tacoma Link line, and Regional Express service that includes 20 new limited-stop regional bus routes and numerous improvements to transit centers, park-and-ride lots and high-occupancy vehicle lanes throughout the region.
