Public meetings, online tools to gather local input on stations, alignment

Sound Transit this week kicks off the next steps to extending and improving mass transit options from Northgate to Lynnwood as approved by voters as part of the Sound Transit 2 expansion plan.
The agency hosts three public meetings over the next two weeks to gather input on what should be examined while preparing environmental impact studies on new options for mass transit between Northgate and Lynnwood.

By 2023 the North Corridor Transit Project will connect to and build on the Link light rail line that opened for service between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport in 2009. Construction is currently underway on a light rail extension to the University of Washington scheduled to open in 2016, followed by service to Northgate targeted in 2021. The 2008 regional vote on the Sound Transit 2 measure approved 36 new miles of service to the north, south and east to create a light rail system stretching more than 50 miles.

Sound Transit completed an Alternatives Analysis earlier this year and is now conducting an "environmental scoping" process to determine what should be studied in the upcoming Draft Environmental Impact Statement. The open houses will also provide the public an opportunity to review the two alternatives being considered - light rail along I-5 and light rail running elevated on SR-99/Aurora Ave.

The public can weigh in at the following public meetings or fill out an online survey at: http://projects.soundtransit.org/Projects-Home/North-Corridor-Transit-Project.xml

The public meetings are from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Tuesday, October 11, 2011: Shoreline Conference Center, 18560 1st Ave N.E., Shoreline
  • Thursday, October 13, 2011: Embassy Suites Hotel, 44th Ave West, Lynnwood
  • Tuesday, October 18, 2011: Ingraham High School, 1819 N 135th St, Seattle
