Pierce County volunteer sought to serve on Citizen Oversight Panel on regional transit progress

Sound Transit is recruiting for a citizen volunteer from Pierce County to fill a vacancy on its independent Citizen Oversight Panel. The 15-member panel was formed in 1997 as part of Sound Transit's commitment to public accountability to monitor and report on the agency's performance in implementing regional transit services. The panel independently monitors and reports to the public on Sound Transit's performance against its commitments in a number of policy areas. The agency is requesting letters of interest from citizens with specific skills or experience, and who are willing to volunteer for a minimum of two years on the panel. The panel currently meets monthly.

Applicants must be registered voters who live within the Sound Transit district boundary in Pierce County and have experience in one or more of the areas of panel responsibility including general management, financial management, public facilities and service, government processes, and public policy development or review. Anyone meeting the criteria and interested in being considered should submit a one-page letter of interest highlighting the expertise they would bring to the panel to the Sound Transit by Friday April 14, 2000. Following the April 14 deadline, the members of the Sound Transit Board will receive copies of all letters of interest. Each board member may then nominate one person for consideration. The board's Executive Committee will review the nominations and recommend a finalist to the full Sound Transit Board for confirmation.

Sound Transit is well underway in implementing a voter-approved 10-year plan of light rail transit, commuter rail service on existing tracks, new regional express bus service, and related improvements in the Central Puget Sound region.
