Sound Transit will host a public forum next week to seek input from the public on the future of light rail for the region. The Sound Transit Board is considering several options for building the first segment of the Central Link light rail project and is seeking community input during the decision-making process.

"We need to hear from the public as we consider the future of light rail in our region," Dave Earling, Sound Transit Board Chair, said. "I encourage everyone who's interested to come to the forum, learn more about Sound Transit, and share constructive comments and ideas."

Earling and several other Board members will attend the forum, at which the following options for an initial segment of light rail will be presented:

    • NE 45th St. in the University District to S. Lander St. in south downtown.
    • Convention Place Station in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel to S. Henderson St. in the Rainier Valley.
    • Convention Place Station to S. 200th St. in SeaTac.
    • Capitol Hill to S. Henderson St.

"The Board is facing a critical regional decision about the future of light rail, and it's important that we listen to the community as we move forward," Earling said.

The forum will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20 at Town Hall, 1119 8th Avenue in Seattle. Staff will be available throughout the forum to take questions about the options and there will be overview presentations and public comment sessions at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Those unable to attend are encouraged to contact Sound Transit with their comments toll-free at (800) 201-4900 or visit the Sound Transit Web site at www.soundtransit.org. Members of the public are asked to call Sound Transit in advance at (800) 201-4900 (voice) or (888) 889-6368 (TTY) if translation services are needed for the public forum or if information is needed in accessible formats.
