In the very near future, downtown Bellevue's Transit Center will transform into the Bellevue Transportation Center, becoming a major transportation hub and civic plaza featuring attractive pedestrian amenities and providing several new local and regional transit services, including shuttles, taxis and Sound Transit's Regional Express bus transit system.

To learn more about the proposed ideas for the new Bellevue Transportation Center, citizens are urged to attend a open house/scoping meeting co-hosted by Sound Transit - the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority, the City of Bellevue and King County.

Tuesday, June 16
Open house/scoping meeting 4:30 - 8 p.m.
The Meydenbauer Center, Room 401 - 4th floor
11100 N.E. 6th Street, downtown Bellevue
($1 per hour parking available at the Meydenbauer Center garage - enter from 6th Street)

Staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on the ideas being considered for the Bellevue Transportation Center. Ideas, comments, and suggestions are welcome and encouraged to help determine the scope of issues that need to be considered for the environmental impact statement (EIS) required for the project. Comments on the scope of the project will be accepted until June 30. A draft of the EIS should be completed by November 1998.

Approved by voters in 1996, Sound Transit is on track to implement a three-county regional transit system plan known as Sound Move. Sound Move will be a seamless blend of three transportation systems: Sounder commuter rail, running 81 miles from Everett to Tacoma/Lakewood; Link light rail, a 24-mile system connecting the cities of Seattle, Tukwila and SeaTac and a 1.6 mile system connecting downtown Tacoma with the Tacoma Dome commuter station; and Regional Express, a bus transit system that will connect the major metropolitan areas of Bellevue, Everett, Tacoma and Seattle with other cities and numerous communities with 20 new, fast, limited-stop bus routes and numerous improvements to transit centers, park-and-ride lots and HOV lanes throughout the region.
