Public meeting and hearing on Link light rail Rainier Valley tunnel study Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999

Sound Transit and the Seattle City Council Transportation Committee will co-host a public meeting to review the Link light rail study on a Rainier Valley tunnel route, immediately followed by a Sound Transit public hearing on the tunnel study on Thursday, Feb. 11, 6:30 to 9 p.m., Filipino Community Center, 5740 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S., Seattle.

The Rainier Valley Tunnel Environmental Technical Report was developed in response to community requests to study an alternative tunnel route for Link light rail in Southeast Seattle. Copies of the report will be available at numerous locations including: the Sound Transit Community Link Office in historic Columbia City at 4900 Rainier Ave. S., Suite 102, Seattle from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays; libraries throughout the Sound Transit three-county region; and by contacting Anna Mallon, Sound Transit main office, 1100 Second Ave., Suite 500, Seattle, 98101, (206) 689-6776. 

The Sound Transit Board is scheduled to identify a preferred route for the Central Link line at its regular meeting on Thursday, Feb. 25. (The Feb. 25 board meeting will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Puget Sound Regional Council, 1011 Western Ave., Suite 500, Seattle)

Sound Transit - the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority - is also developing Sounder commuter rail service which is scheduled to begin service between Tacoma and Seattle by the end of 1999, with extensions south to Lakewood and north to Everett opening about a year later; Regional Express bus service, which will inaugurate 8 new routes in Sept.; and the Tacoma Link light rail line connecting downtown Tacoma with the Tacoma Dome Commuter Station in 2001.
