Sound Transit and its partners officially broke ground today for a new transit freeway station at I-405’s Bothell-Everett Highway interchange.  The project will improve transit speed and reliability in the I-405 corridor, cutting an estimated five minutes off average commuting times.

The new freeway station and pedestrian bridge, along with upgrades to the southbound on-ramp to Interstate 405 from northbound SR 527, will improve transit access and minimize delays for buses normally traveling through congested local intersections. The construction launch is a significant milestone for Sound Transit and its funding partner, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and community partners including Community Transit, the City of Bothell and the Washington State Department of Transportation.

“Sound Transit continues to add projects that will help connect communities as our mass transit system grows and matures,” said Sound Transit Vice-Chair and Everett City Councilman Mark Olson. “When this freeway station is completed, it will be another important element in what is becoming Sound Transit’s own version of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system for South Snohomish County.”

“The City of Bothell is fortunate to have the Sound Transit Canyon Park Freeway Station in its own backyard,” said Bothell Mayor Mark Lamb. “With Bothell's Canyon Park area being the home to so many leading technology companies, it is certainly in need of the best mass transportation services that can be provided to our citizens.”

The new Canyon Park Freeway Station will be served by the following Sound Transit routes:

  • ST Route 530 -- Bellevue to Everett (via Bothell)
  • ST Route 532 -- Bellevue to Everett (via Canyon Park)
  • ST Route 535 -- Lynnwood to Bellevue
  • CT Route 441 – Edmonds Park and Ride to Overlake (Redmond)
