Nighttime airport road closures coming on Friday, Jan. 30

Motorists traveling to and from Sea-Tac International Airport Friday night and early Saturday need to allow extra time due to road closures. Contractors building the Link light rail station at the airport will erect a pre-fabricated steel pedestrian bridge spanning International Boulevard and the northbound Airport Expressway lanes. The work will require temporary overnight closures of both roadways.

A 550-ton crane with a 116-foot boom will work in the median of International Boulevard to set the bridge in place.

The new pedestrian bridge will connect SeaTac/Airport Station with a new pick-up/drop-off area on the east side of International Boulevard.

What travelers can expect: 

  • From 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30 until 4 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, northbound and southbound International Blvd will be closed between S 170th Street and S 176th Street. Please see detour information below.
    Motorists may see traffic control and single lane closures set-up as early as 8:00 p.m.
  • From 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30 until 4 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, the northbound Airport Expressway will be closed. Please see detour information below.
  • Access will be maintained for all businesses along the closed section of International Blvd. and customers/deliveries/employees will be aided through the work zone by flaggers.
  • A recommended detour will be in place for both north and southbound International Blvd. Please allow extra travel time for traffic changes.

Northbound International Boulevard detour:

  • Right onto South 176th Street
  • Left onto Military Road South
  • Left South 170th Street to return to International Boulevard

Southbound International Boulevard detour:

  • Left onto South 170th Street
  • Right onto Military Road South
  • Right on South. 176th Street to return to International Boulevard

Airport Expressway detour:

    • The Upper Drive (Departure Level) will be closed. Traffic will be detoured onto the Lower Drive (Arrivals Level)
    • The entrance to the Airport at South 182nd Street will be closed and traffic detoured to the Air Cargo Road entrance via South 170th Street
    • The south entrance to the Airport Parking Garage will be closed and all parking traffic will routed to the north entrance
    • Traffic exiting from the Rental Car area will be rerouted
    • Traffic exiting from the Airport Parking Garage will be rerouted
    • There will be no local access from the Airport Parking Garage from 11 p.m. on Friday night until 4 a.m. on Saturday morning

Drivers traveling to and from Sea-Tac Airport should allow extra time for delays during these periods and of course drive cautiously and pay close attention to flaggers and detour signage.
