The Sound Transit Board will select the final route and stations for the central Link light rail system on Thursday, Nov. 18, 1 - 5 p.m. in the boardroom at Union Station, 401 S. Jackson St., Seattle.

The Board's decision will select the 24-mile route and stations for central Link light rail system from Seattle's Northgate Transit Center south to SeaTac that will begin service in 2006. The historic decision on the $1.8 billion system will be the culmination of decades of planning and distilled from nearly 40 potential routes that were initially considered, many of them suggested by local communities and citizens.

Sound Transit is on track to implement a three-county region-wide transit system plan known as Sound Move. Approved by voters in 1996, Sound Move will be a seamless blend of three regional transportation systems. Along with the central Link light rail system and a 1.6 mile line in Tacoma, Sound Move includes Sounder commuter rail, running 81 miles from Everett to Tacoma/Lakewood and Regional Express which includes the ST Express bus system with 18 new, fast, limited-stop bus routes as well as numerous improvements to transit centers, park-and-ride lots and HOV lanes throughout the region.
