Sound Transit offers alternatives to driving in slush and snow

If a serious snowstorm hits our region, Sound Transit is ready with alternatives to driving in the slush and snow-ST Express regional bus service and Sounder commuter trains.

Sounder and ST Express riders should check local news sources, the Sound Transit Web site at www.soundtransit.org, or call the Sound Transit rider information line at (888) 889-6368 for the most up-to-date schedule and reroute information.

Sound Transit riders can also subscribe to the Regional Public Information Network (RPIN) to receive alerts via e-mail and pager on the latest weather, roads and emergency news. Visit the RPIN Web site at http://www.rpin.org/rpinweb/ to subscribe to e-NEWS.

ST Express regional bus service

In the event of snow, ST Express routes may run on a snow schedule. When snow and ice pose driving hazards, Sound Transit revises some of its routes to bypass hazardous, hilly streets.

Sounder commuter rail service

Should a snowstorm happen overnight on Sunday, Sounder commuter rail service will operate on its regular weekday morning schedule. If a snowstorm hits or continues through the day on Monday, Sound Transit will monitor conditions and may decide to operate a special snow train.

Sounder's normal weekday afternoon schedule will remain in effect as well, with Sounder departing King Street Station at 5:10 p.m. and 5:35 p.m.

In 1996 voters approved a plan and funding for Sound Transit to provide a regional system of transit improvements, including Sounder commuter rail, ST Express regional bus service, numerous capital improvements (including park and rides, transit centers and direct access ramps) and Link light rail.
