Body

To help ensure that Sound Transit's equipment and facilities meet the needs of people with disabilities and senior citizens, a new 12-member Citizen's Accessibility Advisory Committee is being formed that will directly advise and work with Sound Transit staff on numerous transportation projects. The committee will review station designs, equipment and signage and discuss transportation issues of importance for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

Applications for the committee are available by calling (206) 398-4930 or (206) 398-5058. (TTY/TDD users please call (206) 398-5086). Deadline for applications to be considered for the committee is August 13, 1999. Members serve a two-year term and may be re-appointed to an additional term.

Sound Transit is on track to implement a three-county region-wide transit system plan known as Sound Move. Approved by voters in 1996, Sound Move will be a seamless blend of three regional transportation systems. Sound Move includes Sounder commuter trains, running 82 miles from Everett to Tacoma/Lakewood; Link light rail consisting of a 21-mile line connecting the cities of SeaTac, Tukwila and Seattle and a 1.6 mile line in Tacoma; and Regional Express featuring the ST Express bus transit system that will connect the major metropolitan areas of Bellevue, Everett, Tacoma and Seattle with numerous cities and communities with at least 18 new, limited-stop bus routes plus numerous new or improved transit centers, park-and-ride lots and improved high-occupancy vehicle lane access throughout the region.
