The start of new ST Express regional bus service, the arrival of the first Sounder commuter rail locomotives and cars, and the final route selection and completion of environmental requirements for the Link light rail system are among the highlights detailed in the 1999 Sound Transit annual report to citizens. The report is produced yearly as part of Sound Transit's commitment to keep the public informed on its activities and progress.

Sound Transit's third annual report to citizens, entitled "Moving Forward," will be included in the region's daily newspapers on Thursday, March 16. The eight-page tabloid-style insert discusses the past year's progress in delivering on the multiple transportation improvements approved by the region's voters in 1996. The report also outlines what can be expected this year, including the start up of five additional ST Express bus routes, the start of new rush-hour Sounder commuter train service between Tacoma and Seattle, and construction on numerous transportation projects including the Tacoma Link light rail.

More than 655,000 copies of the report will be distributed as inserts in the region's six daily general circulation newspapers on Thursday. Additional copies will be available at public libraries and community centers, as well as through Sound Transit offices. The total cost for printing and distribution is $55,700 - or less than nine cents per piece.

Voter-approved in 1996, Sound Transit is on track in implementing a three-county regional transit system plan known as Sound Move. The plan includes Sounder commuter rail between Everett and Tacoma/Lakewood; Link light rail, a 21-mile system connecting Seattle, Tukwila and SeaTac; Tacoma Link, a 1.6-mile system in downtown Tacoma; and Regional Express featuring 18 new limited-stop ST Express bus routes and numerous improvements to transit centers, park-and-ride facilities and HOV lanes throughout the region. More information on Sound Move is available at the Sound Transit website: www.soundtransit.org/

EDITOR'S NOTE: The report will be inserted in Thursday's Seattle Times, Seattle P-I, The News Tribune, The Herald, Eastside Journal and South District Journal
