As the Seattle Mariners race for the pennant, Sound Transit's popular Sounder "Homerun" train will continue to offer special event service to Sunday home games on August 13 and 27 and September 10 and 24. To give fans more leisure time for lunch or other activities before the 1:35 p.m. first pitch, the Sounder Homerun train will leave Tacoma's Amtrak station 20 minutes earlier, now departing at 11:10 a.m. and arriving around noon at Seattle's King Street Station, just a short walk from Safeco Field. At 5:30 p.m. fans can catch the Sounder train back to Tacoma. Should the game go into extra innings, Sounder tickets are good for a free ride back to Tacoma on Sound Transit's ST Express buses. Free parking in Tacoma is available at the Tacoma Dome Station.

Round trip tickets are $5 for adults, $2.50 for seniors and persons with disabilities. Free tickets for kids under aged 12 will be limited to four per paying passenger. The eight-car trains can carry about 1,100 riders and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis and have sold out in less than a day.

Tickets for each trip will be on sale the week prior to game day at the Tacoma Dome Station, Monday to Friday, 5 a.m. - 1 p.m. If the train is not sold out during the week, tickets can be purchased on Saturday at the Lakewood Bus Shop, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and on game day at the Tacoma Dome station from 9 - 11 a.m. Sound Transit's comfortable air-conditioned ST Express buses will be standing by with non-stop service to Safeco Field for riders who aren't able to purchase Sounder tickets.

For the first time in more than 60 years, commuters can enjoy rail transit service on Sept. 18 when Sounder trains begin providing regular rush hour commuter service between Tacoma and Seattle. The two-level passenger cars feature comfortable seats, restrooms, cupholders, water fountains, work tables, protected outlets for laptop computers and storage areas for bicycles, wheelchairs and strollers. Along with the recently completed King Street Station, construction has begun at other commuter rail stations that will be located in Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Kent, and Tukwila. The service is planned to expand in 2001/2002 south to Lakewood and north to Everett.

Sounder commuter rail is one part of Sound Move, the voter-approved plan to bring Link light rail and ST Express bus service to King, Pierce and Snohomish counties.
