Sounder commuter rail service anticipated to run on schedule tomorrow

Sounder service is anticipated to run on schedule tomorrow (Thursday, Dec. 12) following a large fire this afternoon near the Tacoma Dome. The fire involved two railway tanker cars on tracks in the area used by Sounder commuter rail.

While fire-fighting efforts were underway, Sound Transit made plans to stop this evening's Sounder trains in Puyallup and transfer passengers to special buses called in for the incident, in order to avoid the area of the fire. However, by the time the first Sounder train of the evening reached Puyallup, the fire was under control and the train continued on to Tacoma. Although buses were waiting at the Puyallup Station and some passengers decided to use them, all three Sounder trains were ultimately able to continue to Tacoma.

The special bus service that Sound Transit activated between Puyallup and Tacoma was provided under an agreement with Pierce Transit for transporting Sounder passengers in the event of a service disruption.

Sounder trains depart Tacoma at 6:15 a.m., 6:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. weekdays with stops in Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Kent, Tukwila and Seattle. On weekday evenings they depart Seattle at 4:55 p.m., 5:10 p.m. and 5:35 p.m., with stops at all of the stations.
