“This is an exciting and unique project,” said Sound Transit Vice-Chair and Everett City Councilman Mark Olson. “The new freeway station/park-and-ride not only benefits Everett and South Snohomish County commuters by improving the speed and reliability of transit, it is also the state’s first such facility constructed in an Interstate freeway median. By using this state-owned land, we save the taxpayers money and minimize impacts on nearby property owners”
Transit service will be able to bypass the congested State Route 526 interchange currently needed to access the Eastmont Park-and-Ride and will improve bus speed and increase schedule reliability. After the South Everett Freeway Station begins operation Sound Transit will evaluate alternatives for service to the Eastmont Park-&-Ride.
The new facility will provide approximately 400 parking stalls, passenger platforms, shelters and landscaping. The project will also provide direct access for transit and HOV vehicles to the northbound and southbound lanes of I-5 and will cut up to nine minutes from a round-trip commute.
