Sound Transit hosts drop-in sessions on potential Tacoma Link Expansion
Public invited to learn more about progress on expanding Tacoma Link to Stadium and Hilltop districts
Sound Transit is hosting a series of neighborhood drop-in sessions next week through Oct. 2 to give the public a chance to learn about progress on the agency's work to expand Tacoma Link.
The agency has identified a preferred alignment, station locations, and maintenance facility expansion site for the proposed light rail alignment that would expand the existing 1.6-mile system from the Theater District to the Hilltop District via Stadium Way. Attendees will learn how public input was used to modify station locations.
In 2008, voters approved the Sound Transit 2 ballot measure, which included funding for a partnership to expand the Tacoma Link system. Building the expansion will require partner and federal funding to supplement ST2 tax revenues. The project assumes $50 million in funding from ST2 dollars, $75 million from a Federal Small Starts grant, and $40 million from the City of Tacoma.
Citizens are encouraged to stop by the following events, where Sound Transit staff will be available to share the agency's work on the expansion.
