Three public forums scheduled to discuss pending Link light rail route decision

On November 18, the Sound Transit Board is scheduled to make a final decision on the route and station locations for the central Link light rail system between SeaTac and North Seattle. Prior to their decision, Sound Transit has scheduled three public forums - two in Seattle co-sponsored by the Seattle City Council - to discuss the factors that are affecting their decision and to hear final comments from the public.

Representatives of the Sound Transit Board, joined by members of the Seattle City Council at the two Seattle meetings, will be on hand to hear public comments, and transcripts will be provided to all boardmembers not in attendance.

In February, the board identified its preference for a route and station locations while continuing to study a variety of options. Last week, a number of board members joined labor and community leaders in announcing their current thinking on how the system will come together and asked for community input. The forums are one of the opportunities for the public to comment.

Sound Transit is implementing Sound Move, the regional transit plan approved by voters in 1996. In addition to developing the central Link and Tacoma Link light rail lines, the agency has already launched nine of 18 limited-stop regional express bus routes, and will begin implementing Sounder commuter rail service on existing tracks between Tacoma and Seattle next year.
